“We’ve been talking about this forever and a day, and we still haven’t made up our minds,” Matt said. “Looking at the money we have available, through savings and financing, we have only two options. We can have a new home built for us, or we can buy a fixer upper and pour the money into that to transform it into our dream home. I’m just not sure what the best option is.”
Matt’s wife Wendy is originally from the Natick area, and wants to raise the couple’s three children in her childhood neighborhood. “I think that renovating an existing home would be cheaper than building new. We’d save money.”
Matt’s not so sure. “Renovations can eat up a ton of money, especially as new problems get discovered. With new construction, you know what you’re getting.”
We had the couple talk to a Natick home construction expert: A.A. Tofani. Knowing whether to have a new home built or renovate an existing home isn’t a cut and dried question. The question of Natick home renovations begins with a simple question: what home are you planning to renovate? There are several well-built homes throughout our region that need only fairly minor renovations to modernize their look and usefulness for today’s modern families. Other homes, however, may have significant structural issues that need addressing to make the home safe. The best step to answering this question involves working with a Natick home inspector, who can give you an objective assessment of a home’s condition before you buy it.
When you choose new construction in Natick, and you work with an experienced contractor like A.A. Tofani, you can confidently assume you’re getting a well-built home that will serve your family well for decades. The cost is higher, but the control is greater: a design/builder contractor on your side means you can customize everything.
